Early Career Teachers are entitled to a two-year package of professional development and mentoring.  ECTs joining the profession will start the Early Career Teacher Entitlement, drawing on the revised ITTECF framework.

Redbridge Education Partnership is a delivery partner for University College London (UCL). We are proud to deliver the UCL’s ECTE programme, suitable for ECTs in primary, special and secondary schools.  This is a fully funded, research informed package of support for Early Career Teachers as they continue their journey into the teaching profession following their ITT route. The ECT programme is delivered over two years using a blend of self-study, online meetings, in-person training and enquiry-based learning.

The ‘DfE Register ECTs’ web page will be updated on 1 June 2026 to incorporate a number of changes. We have recorded a summary of these changes for Induction Tutors to note here.

The Registration process

Welcome to a walk-through guide on how to register all new ECTs and mentors to the ECTE programme.

To start you will need to log-on to the Register Early Career Teachers Service: https://www.register-early-career-teachers.education.gov.uk/

Step #1: Nominate your Induction Tutor. If you already have done this, he/she can simply log in to the service.
Step #2: Select your preferred delivery route –the Provider led option.
Step #3: Confirm UCL as your Lead Provider, and REP as your Delivery Partner.
Step #4: Confirm your Appropriate Body choice. REP can offer guidance on your choices, if you would like to consider options.
Step #5: Add ECTs and Mentors to the DfE Database.
Step #6: Assign a mentor to your ECT.
Step #7: Contact REP with details of all new ECTs and Mentors, using this link.

You will also need to confirm details on ECT Manager.

Once REP has received your details, we will contact all new ECTs and Mentors with details of the ECT programme, dates for training and how to access the UCL’s online learning portal – UCL Extend.

If you need any guidance on different scenarios or just a reassurance on the process, please contact us for a chat or send an email, we are happy to help.

Terminology

  • Delivery Partner (DP) – The organisation in charge of delivering the programme
  • Appropriate Body (AB) – the organisation that will quality control the standards achieved by ECTs, linked to the Teaching Standards – independent of the DP

In school organisation

The ECT is supported by a Mentor and a Tutor, provided by the school.

The Mentor is usually a line manager, often a year group leader, Head of Department or close experienced colleague.

Mentors support the ECT’s progress through the training programme and usually only manage one ECT.

The school and mentor also ensure the ECTs complete the ECF programme.

The school has only one Induction Tutor (IT) who oversees the evaluation of progress towards the teaching standards for all ECTs in the school.

Facilitator Support

The Delivery Partner will use Facilitators to deliver the training for ECTs, mentors and Induction Tutors.

These are experienced professionals, skilled in delivering teacher training.

These work for the Delivery Partner and are quality assured by professionals such as the Programme Director (the REP model).

They are assigned to work with schools in geographical clusters.
